Take decisions fast

Take decisions fast

If you've known me for a while, you'd know I'm someone who gets confused even before buying a shirt from Zudio, let alone taking important life decisions.

So I've always felt the need to make better choices. Our life is a sum of the choices we make. And that got me thinking that what if there was a simple way to separate the easy decisions from the hard ones? Stop wasting mental energy on things that don't deserve it, and save it for the stuff that actually matters.
So, here are a few pointers (not recommendations, just reflections) for both you and me:
The framework is called the Don't Think Twice (DTT) Criteria.
Four questions. All yes? Stop thinking, just go.
1. Is the money impact low?
2. Does it add no new responsibility?
3. Can you undo it if it goes wrong?
4. Does it affect only you?
That's it.
No scoring, no multiplication, no delta calculations. Just four honest answers. The original version had all of that math, and a friend pointed out it defeats the purpose if you're doing calculations to decide whether to think about a decision, you're already thinking too hard.
The beauty is you set your own bar for question one. For some, low money impact means under Rs. 500. For others it's Rs. 5,000. Depends on where you are in life.
And if even one answer is no, that's not a bad thing, it just means the decision deserves your actual attention. Put it in the "think about it" pile and move on from the rest.
Do tell me what you think about it.
Until next time! Cheers!
